THIS WILL BE A CLASS ON CONTEMPORARY ART RUNNING FALL 2023

This course will analyze the art produced from the 1980s to the present. The approach is both global and thematic. Students will be introduced to artists working today and explore the ideas that inspire their practice- from the explosion of popular culture, activist movements, globalism and diaspora, and new technologies of creation and display. Special emphasis will be placed on the relationship between contemporary art and the social contexts and changes that mark this period.
