DIGITAL FABRICATION FOR SCULPTORS AND DESIGNERS

ASST. PROF. JONNY FARROW

SPRING 2024 M/W 3:30-5:45

This course will take advantage of contemporary tools that sculptors use for both rapid prototyping and fabrication, specifically, 3-D printers, laser cutters, and CNC routers. Students will learn the workflows and create designs to be fabricated using these tools. Additionally, students will look at the contemporary discourses that extend the use and meaning of these tools in the practice and production of contemporary artworks.

There are no pre-reqs for this course, but it is advisable that you have a strong interest in contemporary art and in designing objects using various design softwares such as Fusion 360 and Adobe Illustrator. It is also strongly advised that you have reliable access to a laptop and an external backup hard drive that is running the most recent Mac or PC operating systems as you will have to work outside of class on your files in the softwares that we will be using.
